About Us

Our mission is to be a strong, sustainable organisation with broad community involvement that enables people from all walks of life to engage in creating art in a friendly and supportive environment.

Our kitchen is used for many functions and events.

We are a membership-based society for artists of all abilities to paint, draw, and create together.

The Horowhenua Art Society was formed in 1949 as the Levin Art Club and had several temporary premises over the years. In 2006, a decision was made to build new art rooms, and extensive fundraising began.

Finally, in 2008, we became an Incorporated Society and moved into our new purpose-built, future-proofed Art Rooms. We have good heating, concrete flooring in the Studio, a well-equipped kitchen, wheelchair access, plenty of space and excellent light.

We hold exhibitions throughout the year, and we also hold workshops, demos and classes that foster talent, often hidden, in a relaxed, informal setting.

We also host social events from time to time that are well supported.

Don't worry if you have never painted before - just come along and have fun creating your own masterpieces. Our friendly members will help you get started.

Our Annual General Meeting is held in February or March. The committee and executive are elected for the coming year.

The Studio is the envy of many other clubs.
